ABOUT US

Monash Taekwondo is a friendly, vibrant and well-established club that provides opportunities to develop Taekwondo skills and form long lasting friendships.

We have 4 training sessions per week where we teach and help polish different elements of Taekwondo such as kicking, sparring techniques, poomsae (patterns/forms) and self-defence.

It is a great place to improve general fitness, discipline, balance and flexibility. We also organise regular social events to develop and strengthen friendships and bonds outside of our regular training sessions.

MEET OUR HEAD INSTRUCTOR, MASTER KIM

Our head instructor/sabumnim, Master Kim (7th Dan Black Belt from Kukkiwon) brings over 35 years of taekwondo teaching experience and has led our club for over 20 years. With his extensive experience and expertise, he runs our Friday and Sunday sparring-focused training sessions and is dedicated to helping students develop their skills, discipline and confidence both on and off the mat.

Coaching Certifications:

  • Kukkiwon Certified 3rd class Taekwondo Master and Taekwondo judge
  • World Taekwondo Association certified 3rd level International referee(2007)
  • AT(Australia Taekwondo) Performance sparring coach

Teaching Philosophy

University life can be demanding. My philosophy is to make Taekwondo a space where you build both physical strength and mental toughness. By fostering a community of mutual respect and leadership, I push students to break their limits on the mat so they can face any real-world challenges with confidence and resilience.

  • Head Coach of the Monash University Taekwondo Club for over 20 years
  • Multiple overall team winning at AUG (Australia University Game)
